Be there
- Answer questions. If children can ask parents questions at a young age they are more likely to
continue doing so
- Talk whilst doing other activities, for example discuss what you see on TV or in a magazine, rather
than a 'one off' session
- Give them books or leaflets but let them know they can talk to you too
- Find out what sex and relationship education is taught at your child's school; ask your children
about it so they know you are interested
Support your children
- Research shows young people say they want their parents to talk to them
- Talking about relationships, responsibilties and sex will give your child knowledge and confidence
to make important choices in the future
- The media is saturated with images and information on relationships and sex.
Children and young people need trustworthy support to help them make sense of all this and the changes they are experiencing
